Job Posting Policy

The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC Law) is the public law school of the District of Columbia. Its mission is to provide a well-rounded theoretical and practical legal education that will enable students to be effective and ethical advocates; to recruit and enroll students from communities underrepresented at the bar; and to serve the public interest. The UDC Law Office of Career & Professional Development (OCPD) posts job notices to students and alumni as a service to them and the employers. In keeping with the School of Law’s mission, OCPD gives priority to listings from UDC Law students and alumni, as well as faculty and staff, public interest and minority organizations, and positions in metropolitan Washington, DC. OCPD does not publish requests from individuals or organizations seeking representation in a legal matter. OCPD does not check, validate or guarantee the accuracy of the information presented, nor does it make any representations, endorsements about the nature of the work, the background or the reputation of the employer. Potential applicants are advised and encouraged to research with care employers and employment opportunities presented on this website and through all sources.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The University of the District of Columbia prohibits unlawful discrimination, including that based on actual or perceived: race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family responsibilities, matriculation, political affiliation, marital status, personal appearance, genetic information, familial status, source of income, status as a victim of an intrafamily offense, place of residence or business, or status as a covered veteran. In accordance with this policy, the OCPD facilities, services and programs are available only to employers whose practices are consistent and in agreement with this policy.

Reciprocity Policy

UDC Law students and graduates who are looking for positions outside of Washington DC area may want to consider using law schools in their target area as a resource. Most law schools have established policies that allow law schools to provide reasonable access to their career resources for students and graduates from other law schools that agree to provide similar services (“reciprocity”).

It is important to understand that each law school has its own reciprocity requirements. If reciprocity is granted, students/graduates should be sure to read and honor the reciprocity policy of the host school. See NALP for a list of reciprocity policies or look at the school’s own website. Please note that many schools have regional agreements through which you may be able to access only one school in that area. In metropolitan DC, law students and graduates are not permitted to use the resources of other area law schools.
