About Black Women Leading in Law
Join us for an enriching experience at Black Women Leading in Law, a signature event that affirms UDC Law’s commitment to cultivating the professional identities, leadership capacity, and career pathways of our students. This convening honors the trailblazing legacy of Jean Camper Cahn, the first Black woman to co-establish a law school, and reflects UDC Law’s enduring role as an incubator for justice-centered legal leadership.
Held at Heritage Hall, the program will feature a dynamic and timely conversation with Interim Dean Angela Gilmore of the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law, alongside Dean Hutchins Laurent of the University of Maryland Carey School of Law, and Dean Reed of the University of Baltimore School of Law. Together, these distinguished leaders will share insights on leadership, mentorship, institutional responsibility, and the evolving role of legal education in advancing equity, access, and justice.
In addition to the moderated discussion, guests will enjoy live music, passed hors d’oeuvres, and wine, creating a vibrant and welcoming environment for connection, reflection, and community building.
As a national leader in clinical and experiential legal education, UDC Law has long provided a rigorous legal foundation rooted in theory and practice for students historically underrepresented in the legal profession. Through intentional mentorship, institutional support, and collective encouragement, the UDC Law community works to empower students to become principled, skilled, and courageous advocates.
Black Women Leading in Law is a celebration of history, progress, and leadership, and an invitation to engage at the intersection of legacy, innovation, and future impact.
