Tuition & Mandatory Fees

UDC David A. Clarke School of Law offers an excellent and affordable legal education and seeks to make law school a reality for all students accepted in our J.D. programs, regardless of their financial circumstances. The 2023-2024 tuition rates for full-time students are $6,219 per semester for D.C. residents, $9,328 for metropolitan area residents, and $12,437 per semester for non-District residents; tuition rates for part-time, visiting and non-matriculating students are $422 per credit hour for D.C. residents, $631 per credit hour for metropolitan area residents, and $843 per credit hour for non-District residents. Each enrolled student must pay annual fees totaling approximately $1,000.

Residency

Any student who has resided in the District of Columbia or the DC metropolitan area for one year by the start of the fall or spring semester may apply for the relevant preferential tuition rate. The student must submit a Proof of Residency Form by the deadline to be considered. Students will be notified by e-mail of the residency determination.

Health Insurance

The University requires all students to have health insurance. Students will be automatically enrolled in the University-sponsored plan unless they waive coverage by providing proof of comparable coverage by the waiver deadline.

The University-sponsored plan, which is administered by United Healthcare, costs $1,593 for the 2023-2024 school year. Students starting coverage in Fall semester will be covered through the following Summer semester. Students entering in Spring or Summer will be charged a pro-rated fee for coverage unless they waive coverage by the waiver deadline. Payment Schedule

The School of Law requires full payment of law school tuition and fees by the first day of classes each semester and does not offer a payment plan. Students who do not settle their accounts by the first day of class will be assessed a $150 late registration fee and have a hold placed on their accounts to prevent registration in subsequent semesters until they have pre-paid their bill.

Current students may log onto myUDC to view their accounts online. New students will receive log-in instructions during their initial registration period.

Tuition Refund Policy

A student who voluntarily withdraws from the School of Law shall receive a tuition refund of monies paid to and received by the School according to the following schedule:

A student who is required to withdraw because of a major violation of the rules and policy of the School of Law shall not be entitled to receive a refund of any tuition paid.
