Applying for Financial Aid

Students must apply annually for all financial assistance unless otherwise stated. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available October 1st for the upcoming academic year. The priority deadline for financial aid applications is March 15th for new students and April 1st for continuing students. Students whose applications are completed by the priority deadline are considered first for scholarship funds as well as given priority in aid award packaging. All students who are admitted should ensure that the FAFSA is sent to UDC Law using our federal school code of B08083.

Required for All Students

  1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    Complete the FAFSA on-line at https://studentaid.gov/. Be sure to use UDC Law’s FAFSA code — B08083. As long as our code is listed on your application it will be transmitted to the School of Law electronically.
  2. UDC Law Financial Aid Forms
    • All students must complete the UDC Law Financial Aid Application annually.
    • All students must complete the UDC Law Title IV Authorization Release for Non-Institutional Charges Form.

These forms can be found on the Financial Aid Forms page. Submit the forms to the Office of Financial Aid by mail, e-mail, or in person.

Applying for Need-Based Institutional Scholarships

Need-Based Scholarships are available to students who demonstrate financial need. To be considered, students must submit a UDC Law Need-Based Scholarship Application each year. The application is available on the Financial Aid Forms page and is required only for students seeking a need-based scholarship.

The Need Based Scholarship Application is required ONLY if you are applying for a need-based scholarship.

Priority application deadlines are:

  • Continuing students: April 1
  • Newly admitted students: June 30

Applying for Merit Scholarships

Firebird Excellence Merit Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who have been admitted to UDC Law for their first year. All applicants are considered for the Firebird Excellence Merit Scholarship award based on the information provided in the application for admission. No application is required.

Firebird Commitment of Excellence Scholarship

The Firebird Commitment of Excellence Scholarship is available exclusively to continuing students. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a strong commitment to the Law School’s mission while maintaining excellence in their academic pursuits.

To be considered, continuing students must submit the Firebird Commitment of Excellence Scholarship Application annually. The application is available on the Financial Aid Forms page.

Priority application deadline: April 1.

  • Applying for Work-Study

    Work-study awards generally are not included in students’ initial Financial Aid award notifications. Instead, students who wish to participate in the federal work study program will need to notify the Office of Financial Aid. Once they have completed the proper paperwork to be entered on the payroll, students approved for work-study may begin working October 1.
