Post-Conviction Criminal Defense Clinic

The Post-Conviction Criminal Defense Clinic combats mass incarceration and racial injustice in the criminal legal system through direct representation. Under the supervision of Professor Ngozi Ndulue, student attorneys represent clients in post-conviction challenges to their criminal convictions. This clinic focuses on the skills necessary for successful post-conviction representation, including writing and research skills, client relationship building, post-conviction, investigation, and understanding and integrating racial justice claims. The types of cases vary depending upon the semester; students may work on direct appeals, state post-conviction litigation, federal habeas litigation, and amicus briefs.

The classroom experience includes review of evidence, constitutional law, and criminal procedure, as well as an analysis of ethical, strategic, and client representation issues.
