Pipleline to Practice Foundation Scholarships

The Pipeline to Practice Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to diversifying the legal profession by providing diverse students with programming and attorney mentors throughout law school. Additionally, the Foundation has partnered with BARBRI to ensure that its students receive free access to BARBRI Law Preview’s law school prep course (before law school) and a BARBRI Bar Review course (when they graduate).

KarmicKash

KarmicKash is BARBRI Law Preview’s campaign to help combat food insecurity in the United States by supporting 100,000 volunteer hours at food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens in 2022. KarmicKash provides free tuition for BARBRI Law Preview to 1,000 entering law students who volunteer a minimum of 100 hours at a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit food bank, food pantry, or soup kitchen between January 1 and April 30, 2022.


Abbott & Fenner Scholarship

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants is offering a $1,000 scholarship to students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. To apply for the scholarship, you must write a 500-1000 word essay on the following topic: Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals. See website for additional requirements.

AES Engineering Services Scholarship

AES Engineering Services is offering a $500 scholarship that will be awarded based on character, as determined by applicant essays submitted. This scholarship is available to students across a wide spectrum of fields of study; you are not required to be taking engineering courses to be eligible.

American Association for Justice (AAJ): AAJ Trial Advocacy Scholarship and Leesfield/AAJ Scholarship

The AAJ Trial Advocacy Scholarship is open to AAJ Law Student Members who are entering their second and third year of law school. This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates the following: commitment to AAJ and its mission; a desire to represent victims; interest and skill in trial advocacy; and financial need.

The Leesfield/AAJ Scholarship, available to first- and second-year AAJ Law Student Members, awards $1,500 to subsidize attendance at AAJ’s Annual Convention. AAJ’s Annual Convention is a great opportunity for the winner to network with top trial lawyers from around the country.

American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Scholarship Program

AALL Scholarships are available to assist individuals studying to become law librarians as either a library or law school student (e.g. library school graduates pursuing a law degree or law school graduates pursuing a library degree). See website for details.

American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers (ACCFSLF) Writing Competition

ACCFSL seeks to recognize written contributions to the field of U.S. consumer financial services law. Eligible papers include books, book chapters, substantial book reviews, publishable articles, and student case notes or comments that were written within the 12 months preceding the deadline. Awards include a cash payment ($5,000 for books; $3,500 for articles, reviews, or book chapters; and $1,500 for student work).

Answering Legal’s Future Attorneys of America Scholarship

Arnold & Itkin LLP Academic Scholarship

Arnold & Itkin LLP will award $5,000 to two current law students who share our passion for assisting the underprivileged and the victims of tragedy. Regardless of the area of law, the scholarship recipients should be focused on utilizing the legal system to support those less fortunate. All applicants should demonstrate both past and current dedication to victim advocacy and/or community service. To apply, each applicant must submit an essay explaining their goals and intent to use their legal education to improve the lives of certain individuals, the community, or society at large. The essay should be limited to no more than 3 pages. In addition to that, applicants must submit a statement of financial need along with supporting documentation. Students must be in their second or third year at an ABA Accredited school, have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. resident, and be in financial need.

Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) Graduate Scholarships

Scholarships up to $5,000 are available for Graduate students. Applications must be submitted no earlier than your senior undergraduate year and no later than your second year of graduate studies. Evaluation criteria include merit, character, serious of academic commitment, and relevance of your studies to national security interests and career ambitions. If you qualify for more than one of the scholarships, only one master application needs to be submitted.

Cosmos Club Foundation: Cosmos Scholars Grant Program

The program provides grants to graduate students at DC area universities to meet specific research needs not covered by other supporting funds, including but not limited to special supplies, travel, unanticipated expenses that would enhance the work, etc. Specifically excluded are general financial support, tuition, and living expenses (except in connection with supported travel). There is no restriction as to academic field, but the project should be focused on objective scholarly research rather than commercial or political activity, social activism, or other non-academic goals. The number of grants to be awarded is expected to be at least fifteen. Amounts of rewards will be determined individually and will not exceed $5,000. Applications for a given year’s program usually are accepted beginning in late summer.

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund aids people active in movements for social and economic justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students enrolled or planning to enroll in a college or university and active in the progressive movement. The maximum grant is $15,000. Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum Bluestein, LLP offers a recurring scholarship worth $1500 designed to help one law student with their tuition costs. The FCBA Foundation Law School Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to rising second or third year students currently enrolled in accredited U.S. law schools who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in communications law. Awards typically range from $2,000 – $10,000 each. The FCBA Foundation also sponsors a Law School Summer Internship Stipend Program that provides stipends to law students in otherwise unpaid summer internships in communications-related agencies. Food and Drug Law Institute: H. Thomas Austern Memorial Writing Competitions

The Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) sponsors the H. Thomas Austern Memorial Writing Competitions to encourage law students interested in the areas of law that affect food, drugs, animal drugs, biologics, cosmetics, diagnostics, dietary supplements, medical devices and tobacco. Winning papers will be considered for publication in the Food and Drug Law Journal. Papers must be less than 100 pages. See website for sample topics.

Michael Maggio Immigrants’ Rights Summer Fellowship Program

This Fellowship was established jointly by the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, to commemorate the life and legal contributions of Michael Maggio (Antioch Law School, Class of 1978). The Fellowship will be awarded to one law student each summer to work on a student-initiated project. Students must submit a project proposal with an organization willing to host the student for 10 weeks and a source of $1,500 in funding (the $1,500 amount may be paid by the host organization, law school public interest funding, independent fundraising, etc.) The Maggio Immigrants’ Rights Fellowship will provide an additional $2,500 stipend for a total award of $4,000.

NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.: Earl Warren Scholarship

Earl Warren Scholarships are awarded to law school applicants with exceptional academic records who are actively engaged with civil rights and public interest work. Awards are $10,000 per year for three years (as long as scholars remain in good academic standing) for a total of $30,000. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a well-defined interest in civil rights through their academic records and personal essays.

National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Law Foundation Scholarships

The Foundation awards various scholarships on a nationwide basis to law students who demonstrate a commitment to serve or contribute to the Asian Pacific American community as future leaders. Named in honor of the late Mark T. Banner, a former Linn Inn founder and Master, a leader in the field of patent law in his own right, and the son of Donald W. Banner, this new scholarship is part of the Linn Inn’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers with commitment to ethics, professionalism and civility. The scholarship is open to students interested in a career in intellectual property law.

Robert A. Shuker Scholarship Fund

Will award one to three annual scholarships of $10,000 to $20,000 each in memory of Hon. Robert A. Shuker, who at the time of his death was a judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Applicants must be full-time law students who are residents of the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, DC. Type Media Center: Robert Masur Fellowship in Civil Liberties

The fellowship competition is open to first-year law students who intend to carry out significant activities during the summer (in between their first and second year) in the areas of civil rights and/or civil liberties. The fellowship recipients each receive a $2,000 honorarium. Proposed activities may include a writing or research project, work with a public interest organization, work on a law case under the supervision of a faculty member or lawyer, or any other work in the areas of civil rights or civil liberties.

Washington Bar Association Educational Foundation: Charles Hamilton Houston Scholarship Essay Contest

The WBAEF Charles Hamilton Houston Essay Competition is held each year in honor of the brilliant Charles Hamilton Houston, one of the most important civil rights attorneys in American history. Currently enrolled first and second year law students are invited to participate. Monetary scholarships will be awarded to first ($3,000), second ($2,000), and third ($1,000) place winners. Washington Bar Association Educational Foundation: Chief Judge Eugene Hamilton Scholarship Competition

This WBAEF scholarship was initiated in 2010 to honor the memory and service to the District of Columbia by the late Eugene Hamilton, Chief Judge of the D. C. Superior Court. All currently enrolled law students are invited to submit a brief on the specified topic. The winner of this competition will receive a $5,000.00 prize.

American Association for Justice (AAJ): Richard D. Hailey Scholarship

AAJ’s Minority Caucus will award $5,000 scholarships to African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and Biracial Law Student Members who are entering their first, second, or third year of law school. Applicants should: exhibit an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy; express a desire to represent victims; demonstrate a commitment to AAJ and dedication to its mission through involvement in an AAJ student chapter and Minority Caucus activities; and show a financial need for the scholarship.

American Association of Law Libraries (AALL): George A. Strait Minority Scholarship & Fellowship

American Bar Association: Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund

The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund was created to encourage and support diversity in the legal profession. Ten to twenty awards will be made to entering first-year students. Scholarships will consist of $5,000 in financial assistance awarded annually to each scholarship recipient. An award made to an entering student may be renewed for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000. Applicants will be screened by a scholarship committee comprised of representatives from ABA entities, the national minority bar associations and at-large members. Applicants must be entering, first-year law students; U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and have achieved a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5.

American Bar Association: LGBT Public Interest Scholarship Program

The ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) works to secure full and equal treatment in the ABA, the legal profession and the justice system without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity. The SOGI LGBT Scholarship will provide financial support to a first, second or third year law student, or recent law graduate to enable the student or recent law graduate to work in the LGBT public interest arena for the Summer/Fall of 2021. One or more scholarships of up to $5,000 each will be awarded annually. Applicants must (i) be either a first, second or third year law student in good standing in an ABA accredited law school, or a recent law graduate from an ABA accredited law school still studying for the Bar Exam, and (ii) have secured an internship or job for Summer 2021 (which can extend beyond the Summer) and/or the Fall of 2021 with a public interest organization engaged in legal or policy work with a direct impact on LGBTQ individuals.

American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA): National Educational Foundation Scholarships

Applicants must be of Greek descent, and a member (or the child of a member) of AHEPA, the Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles or the Maids of Athena. Awards up to $2,000. District AHEPA chapters also award scholarships via their own application procedures.

American Indian College Fund: Full Circle Scholarships

Graduate scholarships are available for students who are registered as a member of a tribe or a descendant of at least one grandparent who is a registered member of a tribe. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA; additional requirements for individual scholarships vary.

American Indian Graduate Center

AIGC has various scholarship, fellowship and loan programs for full-time graduate students who can demonstrate personal enrollment in a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group or possess a Tribal Eligibility Certificate. Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund (AEF)

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, D.C. Area (APABA-DC) formed the Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund (AEF) to support charitable and educational activities for Asian Pacific American law students in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. The Donald W. Banner Diversity Fellowship is open to 1Ls and 2Ls enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school and pursuing a career in intellectual property law. Offers scholarships to summer associates in participating offices (e.g. Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.) consisting of a paid Summer Associate position and $15,000 for the student’s second year tuition and expenses. DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship

Two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 will be awarded to those who best meet the following criteria: 1) demonstrated academic excellence; 2) service to the profession; 3) service to the community; 4) service to the cause of diversity. Open to rising second and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, LGBT and multi-racial students. The 1L Diversity Fellowship Program has four components: each Fellow receives a paid summer associate position in one of Fish & Richardson’s domestic offices; mentoring throughout the academic year by members of the firm; participation in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity 1L Scholars Program; and a $5,000-10,000 scholarship. Hispanic Bar Association of DC (HBA-DC) Foundation Scholarships for 3L/4L Students

HBA-DC will award two scholarships of $5,000 to students of Hispanic or Latino descent who are currently enrolled in their final year of studies for a Juris Doctor degree at a law school in Washington, DC. Applicants must demonstrate financial need; be in good standing with their schools; and have a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the Hispanic community.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund

In addition to offering an annual Scholarship Resource Guide, in recent years, MALDEF has annually awarded 5-15 law school scholarships of $2,000 each. Michigan Auto Law: Law Student Diversity Scholarship

Michigan Auto Law sponsors an annual $2,000 scholarship to provide financial support to students who contribute to the diversity of the law school student body as they pursue their legal career. The program is open to applicants meet the following requirements: 1) currently in their first or second year of law school or entering law school this fall; 2) a member of an ethnic or racial minority or demonstrates a defined commitment to issues of diversity within their academic career; 3) U.S. citizen accepted to or currently attending an accredited law school within the United States; and 4) demonstrates academic achievement as reflected by an undergraduate cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA.

Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) LMJ Scholarship Program

The Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. (LMJ) Scholarship is a national program that annually grants 10 scholarships of $10,000 to full-time first-year law students. The scholarship is available to diverse individuals who: have overcome obstacles, are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in corporate law, including an interest in working in a corporate law department and/or law firm, and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Applicants must have earned an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolling in law school on a full-time basis.

National Bar Association: NBI Law Student Fellowship Program

The Law Student Fellowship Program, a project of the Institute, was developed to assist law students who are completing professional law degrees, a field where African-American participation has traditionally been low. To be eligible, a law student must have been, among other things, carrying a full time class load at a U.S. law school; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; have at least two consecutive years of full time law student experience; and intend to practice law in a historically underserved community once legal training is completed. Fellowships range from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on the availability of funds.

Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Fellowships are grants for up to two years of full-time graduate study in the US. Recipients are chosen on a national competitive basis. To be eligible, an applicant must be a New American (a naturalized citizen, Green Card holder, or approved for DACA if born abroad; a child of immigrants if born in this country) and not yet 31 years old as of the application deadline.

The Point Foundation: National LGBTQ Scholarship Fund

The Point Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students. TPF is looking for individuals who have proven leadership and community involvement, strong academic achievement, financial need, and want to make a difference in the world. Applicants must be full-time students and “out” as a person who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community. Point Scholarships are awarded on a “last provider” basis, meaning that Point fills in the gaps and provides funds not provided by other scholarships, grants, loans, work/study programs, etc. Each scholar is paired with a mentor and participates in leadership development programs and events.

Sons of Italy Foundation

Each year, the SIF offers 10 to 12 merit-based ‘National Leadership Grants’, ranging from $4,000 to $25,000, in a nationwide competition. Applicants must be U.S. citizens of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian American grandparent) enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a four-year, accredited academic institution. SIF also offers ‘General Study Scholarships’ for U.S. citizens of Italian descent enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program or a graduate program at an accredited academic institution, and the ‘National Italian American Bar Association/Sons of Italy Foundation Scholarship’ specifically for law students.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)

Vietnamese American Bar Association of the Greater Washington DC Area (VABA-DC)

VABA-DC was established, in part, to contribute to the public interest by serving as a voice for the local Vietnamese American community and assisting community members with legal concerns. In furtherance of that mission, we are proud to sponsor up to two $2,500 scholarships for law students who have shown a commitment to serving the Vietnamese American communities or have overcome significant adversity in achieving their academic goals. American Association for Justice (AAJ): Mike Eidson Scholarship

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women for Justice Education Fund in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson. The Mike Eidson Scholarship awards $5,000 annually to a female student entering her third year of law school (the student can be enrolled in a three-year day program or four-year night program) who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized. The winner must attend the AAJ Annual Convention.

Alexander Graham Bell’s Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy

The George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy is for full-time graduate students with a moderate to profound hearing loss who are attending an accredited law school or a masters or doctoral program in public policy or public administration. Up to three awards of $5,000 each may be awarded per year. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following: 1) use spoken language as the primary mode of communication; 2) prelingual hearing loss (diagnosed prior to fourth birthday); 3) hearing loss is bilateral and in the moderate to profound range; 4) applicant has been accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited law school or master/doctoral program in public policy or public administration as a full-time graduate student.

The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance Scholarship

The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance will award $4,000 to one student each semester whose life has been impacted by cancer. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to college students in their pursuit of higher education who have battled cancer at any point of their lives or who have a parent, sibling, immediate family member or close friend that has battled or is currently fighting cancer. National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program

To recognize achievement by blind scholars, the National Federation of the Blind annually offers blind college students in the United States and Puerto Rico the opportunity to win one of thirty national scholarships worth from $3,000 to $12,000. The SAMFund Grants & Scholarships

The SAMFund provides financial assistance to young adults as they move forward with their lives after cancer. Grants and scholarships provided by The SAMFund cover a wide range of post-treatment financial needs. Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey, Inc. (ABWL-NJ)

The Bernadine Johnson-Marshall and Martha Bell Williams scholarship are awarded to female law students of African descent selected by the Scholarship Committee who are either: (1) enrolled at an accredited law school in New Jersey or (2) New Jersey permanent residents enrolled at an accredited law school outside of New Jersey. Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Foundation: Dolores Randolph Bauer, Vera Brown-Curtis Hayes, and Judge Vaino Hassan Spencer Scholarships

Scholarships for full-time law students in their 2nd or 3rd year and part-time students in their 3rd or 4th year who attend an accredited law school and intend to practice law in the Southern California area. Requires an application, reference and response to a legal essay question. Scholarships typically range from $3,000 to $5,000. Hudson County Bar Foundation (HCBF) Scholarships

Multiple scholarships are available for Hudson County, New Jersey, residents who are attending law school or who have been accepted to law school. Students must: be bona fide residents of Hudson County; demonstrate financial need; and submit an application that includes a personal statement, two current letters of recommendation, an academic transcript, and other documentation.

Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia: Ida Foreman Fleisher Fund

The scholarship, established in memory of Ida Fleisher, provides scholarships for women, preferably Jewish, pursuing a graduate degree. Eligibility is limited to women who have a hometown or attend school in the Greater Philadelphia tri-state area. Grants range from $2,000-$8,000 and are distributed to the recipient’s school for tuition purposes only.

Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association Foundation: Elizabeth Barrett Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship

A $2,500 scholarship for a deserving second year law student who demonstrates a strong interest in practicing law in the public service/public interest sector in the south Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and who meets the criteria established by the Selection Committee.

Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara

Applicants must have attended at least four of the six secondary grade school years and graduated from a high school in Santa Barbara County, California. Scholarship awards mostly range from $500 to $5,000 per academic year. To be eligible, applicant must be a full-time student. A personal interview may be required.
