Registration: Upper Level Full-time & Part-time Students

Online registration for Fall 2026 begins on July 1, 2026, for members of the Class of 2027 and on July 8, 2026, for other upper-level students. Please read the following instructions carefully and gather all required documents before proceeding to myUDC. Some courses have additional requirements before registration can be completed.

The registration process comprises four steps, each governed by specific rules and deadlines:

  1. Plan Your Schedule
    a. Guidance, Rules & Instructions for All Courses
    b. Rules & Instructions for Specific Courses
  2. Determine Your Payment Amount & Deadlines
  3. Register for Courses
  4. Add/Drop Period

1. Plan Your Schedule

  • When selecting courses, consult the following materials and resources:

a. Guidance, Rules & Instructions for All Courses

  • Credit Limits: Full-time students must take a minimum of 10 credits and may take a maximum of 15 credit hours during the semester. Part-time students must take a minimum of 7 credits and may take a maximum of 11 credit hours during the semester. Students request permission to exceed maximum credit hours by submitting a Permission to Exceed Term Credit Limit Form to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. If approved, the student must submit the completed and approved form to the Registrar’s Office, indicating which course(s) will be added to the schedule.
  • Limited Enrollment Courses and Wait Lists: Some courses have limited enrollment. Full-time and Part-time students in the Class of 2027 will have enrollment preference until 11:59 pm on July 7, 2026. In addition, Part-time students will have preference for certain course sections which are offered in the evening. If a limited-enrollment course closes, you may email the Registrar’s Office (lawregistrar@udc.edu) to be placed on the wait list. You will be notified if space becomes available during the Add/Drop period.
  • Upper Level Writing Requirement: All students are required to complete an Upper-Level Writing Requirement (ULWR), which has two components: the Research and Legal Analysis Writing Requirement (RALWR), often referred to as the Research Paper Requirement, and the Applied Legal Writing Requirement (ALWR), often referred to as the Clinic Portfolio. Refer to Student Handbook, Vol. I, Section 1.6 for details.
  • Core Electives Requirement: Students who started law school (at any law school) prior to Summer 2022 are required to successfully complete any three courses from a list of “required core electives.” See Student Handbook, Vol. I, Sections 1.1 and 1.4.
  • Prerequisites: Course prerequisites must be satisfactorily completed prior to taking the subsequent course. A student who is currently taking or has just completed a prerequisite for which the grade has not yet been recorded may register for the course, provided that the student must drop the course if the student’s grade in the prerequisite course is not satisfactory. See Student Handbook, Vol. I, Section 3.2.
  • Turbo Courses: Turbo Courses are intensive classes compressed into a short time period. Their class schedules differ from the standard time frame set on the Academic Calendar and different rules apply. Please see the Student Handbook, Vol. I, Section 3.4.2 for Turbo rules.
  • Classes not meeting minimum enrollment requirements are subject to cancellation.

In accordance with Student Handbook Sec. 3.1 and the Model Schedules, students must register for the following required courses in Fall if not already successfully completed:

Part-time students will receive preference for evening sections. As credit limits allow, students may add electives but may not substitute an elective for a required course. Students who need to retake a required course should consult the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs about appropriate course selections. Any student seeking an exception must contact the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (vanita.snow@udc.edu).

b. Rules & Instructions for Specific Courses

  • Clinic: Clinic assignments are determined by a clinic match process, which is now closed. Students will receive additional information from the Clinical Program. The Registrar’s Office will enroll students into their assigned clinics. Once enrolled, students may not drop clinic from their schedule unless they have notified the Registrar and have received permission from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Law Review: Students involved in Law Review should wait until Spring 2027 registration to enroll in the appropriate Law Review course(s). If applicable, the Registrar will adjust the final credits awarded once the faculty advisor approves them.
  • Mock Trial Competition (L452): Students interested in participating in upcoming Mock Trial competitions must 1) apply to become a member of the UDC Mock Trial Team and 2) take the Mock Trial Competition class for the 2026-2027 academic year. The 1-credit pass/fail class meets primarily on Friday evenings in Fall and Spring, with additional times as needed. The deadline to submit a UDC Mock Trial Team 2026 application is Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. The Registrar’s Office will enroll students in this course only with permission from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Students may apply for both the Mock Trial and Moot Court Competition courses but may enroll in only one.
  • Moot Court Competition (L451A): Students interested in participating in a local or national moot court competition must 1) apply to become a member of the UDC Moot Court Competition Team and 2) take the Moot Court Competition class for the 2026-20267 academic year. The 1-credit pass/fail class meets primarily on Friday evenings in Fall and Spring, with additional times as needed. The deadline to submit a UDC Moot Court Competition Team 2026 application is Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. The Registrar’s Office will enroll students in this course only with permission from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Students may apply for both the Mock Trial and Moot Court Competition courses, but may enroll in only one.
  • Professional Responsibility (L203): Students in the Part-time Class of 2028 will have enrollment preference for this course. Students in other Classes who would like to enroll in the evening section may be waitlisted.
  • Independent Study, Elective & Extended Clinics, and Auditing: Please refer to Volume I of the Student Handbook for rules regarding Independent Study (Sec. 3.4.1), Elective and Extended Clinics (Sec. 3.3), and auditing courses (Sec. 4.7). The required registration forms for each are available online. These forms must be completed, approved and returned to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the Add/Drop period. The Registrar will enroll students in these courses.

2. Determine Your Payment Amount and Deadlines

You must complete all steps of the registration process, including payment of your bill and/or disbursement of your financial aid, by Monday, August 17, 2026, or the University may cancel your course selections. If your course selections are canceled and you wish to re-enroll, you must see the Registrar. You must complete the On-Site & Late Registration Form and pay the late registration fee ($150). Registration for the Fall 2026 semester ends on August 28, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

All students must have health insurance coverage and will be charged the annual premium for the University-sponsored health insurance plan unless the coverage is waived by the University’s deadline. Additional information and instructions for waiving University-sponsored coverage are available on the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan webpage. A waiver, if applicable, must be requested at the beginning of each academic year.

If there is a hold on your record that is preventing registration, please take the following steps:

  1. Sign into my.udc.edu. If you have trouble with logging in, contact the UDC IT Help Hub for assistance.
  2. Once in the system: (1) Click Banner Self-Service; (2) Under the Student tab, click Student Records; (3) On the Student Records page, click View Holds.
  3. The View Holds page will show you the hold, provide the reason, and indicate the source of the hold. If you have questions about the hold or need to take steps to have it removed, please get in touch with the department that placed it. A Student Accounts hold requires that the outstanding balance be paid in full online or at the cashier’s office. The student must then contact the UDC Office of Student Accounts (studentaccounts@udc.edu) to have the hold released.

3. Register for Courses

Members of the Class of 2027 (FT and PT) have online registration priority from July 1 to July 7, 2026. If a student outside of the Class registers during this period, the registration will be deleted, and the student will have to re-register at the appropriate time.

Once in myUDC, click Student Banner Self-Service, then Registration. If you need a refresher, this page has step-by-step instructions for Online Course Registration in myUDC.
